In Japan
- A chlorine-based sterilizing agent. Under the standards for use, it cannot be used in sesame.
- When written by substance name, the short name is “次亜塩素酸Na” (sodium hypochlorite). When it counts as a processing aid that does not remain in the final food, labeling is exempt (annex to the Consumer Affairs Agency's “食品表示基準について” (Notes on the Food Labeling Standards)).
