This product contains lutein and zeaxanthin. Lutein and zeaxanthin have been reported to have a function of supplementing the amount of macular pigment in the retina, which is said to protect the eyes from blue light, ultraviolet rays, and the like; to help improve contrast sensitivity (the ability to see shades clearly, with less blurriness and haziness), and to help reduce disability glare (dazzle), light stress, and temporary mental stress; and to improve sleep quality.
This product contains lutein and zeaxanthin. Lutein and zeaxanthin act to increase the amount of pigment in the macula of the eye, and have been reported to have functions of protecting against stimulation from blue light and ultraviolet rays, and of improving contrast sensitivity (the ability to see clearly, with less blurriness and haziness). They have also been reported to have a function of maintaining judgment (the ability to respond appropriately to changing situations and to reason) and attention (the ability to concentrate on one thing and to pay attention to several things), which are part of the cognitive function that declines with age in healthy older adults.

Cautions written in the notifications (most common)
- “Depending on your condition or constitution, allergic symptoms such as a rash may rarely occur.” (3 notifications)
Under Foods with Function Claims, the company notifies the Consumer Affairs Agency of the scientific evidence on its own responsibility; the government does not review or approve it. You can look up each product's notification by the number on the package in the Consumer Affairs Agency's database (Japanese).
In the EU: the register of health claims
Claim not authorised in the EU
- Claims such as "maintenance of vision" and "protects the eyes from oxidation" were not authorised, because EFSA found the evidence insufficient or the effect not substantiated (2010-2012 opinions).
- A claim of "protects the skin from ultraviolet rays" was also not authorised (2011).
In the EU, only health claims whose evidence has been assessed by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and authorised by the European Commission may be used on food. “Not authorised” means the evidence for that claim was not established under EU standards — not that the ingredient is dangerous.
