α-Glucosyltransferase Treated Stevia α-グルコシルトランスフェラーゼ処理ステビア

Existing food additiveNot on the EU additive list
Purpose
sweetener
On the label
“甘味料(ステビア)” (sweetener (stevia)), “甘味料(酵素処理ステビア)” (sweetener (enzymatically modified stevia)), “甘味料(糖転移ステビア)” (sweetener (glycosyl-transferred stevia)), “ステビア甘味料” (stevia sweetener), “酵素処理ステビア” (enzymatically modified stevia)
Name in the List of Existing Food Additives
α-グルコシルトランスフェラーゼ処理ステビア (No. 101)
Source and production
Obtained by adding glucose (D-glucose) to “ステビア抽出物” (stevia extract) using α-glucosyltransferase. The main components are α-glucosylated steviol glycosides.

In Japan

  • A sweetener made by adding glucose to stevia extract with an enzyme; its alternative name is “酵素処理ステビア” (enzymatically modified stevia). In the List of Existing Food Additives, this item also includes “α-グルコシルトランスフェラーゼ処理ステビオール配糖体(酵素処理ステビオール配糖体)” (α-glucosyltransferase-treated steviol glycosides (enzymatically modified steviol glycosides)), which is made the same way from steviol glycosides. There are no standards for use.
  • Because it is a sweetener, it is written with its purpose name. The simplified names are “ステビア” (stevia), “ステビア甘味料” (stevia sweetener), and “糖転移ステビア” (glycosyl-transferred stevia). “甘味料(ステビア)” (sweetener (stevia)) is also used for stevia extract and others, so the label alone does not tell you which was used.

Japan's standards for use

There are no standards for use that limit which foods or how much (the general standards for all additives still apply).

This is a summary of the standards for use. See the source list for the exact conditions.

In the EU

  • It is not on the EU list of food additives (Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008, Annex II), so it cannot be used as a food additive in the EU.

This page lists facts stated in laws and in evaluations by public bodies; it is not a safety verdict. Additives used in Japan are approved by the government, which sets the foods and amounts they can be used in. The ADI is a guide to the amount that is considered safe to take every day over a lifetime.
