Copied from the official site as of the date checked. The label is shown in Japanese as printed; tap an ingredient to see its English name and role. The links in the table below lead to our Ingredients A–Z and food additive database. The ingredient list, allergens and nutrition facts were copied from the product page on Kagome's official site (not from a photo of the package). The ingredient list has no “/” (slash) because there is no additive to list. The official page explains that it is “トマト・糖類・お酢・食塩・たまねぎ・香辛料だけでつくられています” (made only from tomatoes, sugars, vinegar, salt, onion and spices). The official site also introduces other sizes: 180 g, 300 g, 800 g and 12 g × 10 pieces (the ingredient list of each has not been checked).
Ingredients, one by one
| On the label | Type | Role | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| トマト(輸入又は国産(5%未満))tomatoes | Ingredient | Main ingredient | Ingredients are listed from the largest amount to the smallest, so tomatoes are the biggest part. “輸入又は国産(5%未満)” (imported or Japanese (less than 5%)) is an “or” label, used when imported and Japanese tomatoes are switched depending on the season; it shows that the share of Japanese tomatoes is less than 5%. The label does not name the country when they are imported. |
| 糖類(砂糖・ぶどう糖果糖液糖、ぶどう糖)sugars (sugar, glucose-fructose syrup, glucose) | Ingredient | Sweetness | A label that groups sugars as “糖類” (sugars) and writes the contents in parentheses. Joining items with “・”, as in “砂糖・ぶどう糖果糖液糖”, is how to write a liquid sugar made by mixing sugar into glucose-fructose syrup (sugar-blended isomerized liquid sugar). Glucose-fructose syrup and glucose are sugars made from starch, and are treated as foods. |
| 醸造酢brewed vinegar | Ingredient | Sourness | Vinegar made by fermenting grains, fruit or similar materials. The official page does not say what the raw material is. |
| 食塩salt | Ingredient | Saltiness | — |
| たまねぎonion | Ingredient | Flavor | — |
| 香辛料spices | Ingredient | Aroma | The label does not say which spices. |
Good points and concerns
+Good points
- The ingredient list has 6 items and no additives are listed (the official site also explains it as “トマト・糖類・お酢・食塩・たまねぎ・香辛料だけでつくられています”, made only from tomatoes, sugars, vinegar, salt, onion and spices)
- Tomatoes come first in the ingredient list. The country of origin is written as “輸入又は国産(5%未満)” (imported or Japanese (less than 5%))
- The official site says none of the allergen label items (28 specified allergen items) are used
−Concerns
- The sweetness comes from sugar, glucose-fructose syrup and glucose. Carbohydrate is 27.9 g per 100 g
- Salt equivalent is 3.3 g per 100 g. About 0.5 g in 1 tablespoon (calculated as 15 g)
- The official page does not give the country of the imported tomatoes, the raw material of the brewed vinegar, or the kinds of spices
