In Japan

  • An antifungal agent used to prevent mold on fruit after harvest. The standards for use set the fruits it can be used on and the upper limits.
  • Antifungal agents must be written together with the purpose name, as in “防かび剤(ピリメタニル)” (antifungal agent (pyrimethanil)). It is also among the additives for which sellers are guided to display a notice that it was used, even for loose sales not in packaging (Attachment, Additive 1-6).

Japan's standards for use

  • Apricots, cherries (ōtō), citrus fruits (excluding mandarin oranges (mikan)), plums, peaches: 0.010 g/kg
  • European pears, quinces, apples: 0.014 g/kg

In the EU

  • It is not on the EU list of food additives (Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008, Annex II), so it cannot be used as a food additive in the EU.
  • It is not on the EU list of food additives. In the EU it is treated as a pesticide (an active substance of plant protection products), and the amounts allowed to remain in food are set by maximum residue limits (Regulation 396/2005).

When it is labeled under a shared name
