Source and production
Obtained from the stems of candelilla (Euphorbia antisyphilitica), with hentriacontane as the main component.

In Japan

  • A wax obtained from candelilla stems, used as the base material of chewing gum (gum base) and as a glazing agent that gives food surfaces a shine. There are no standards for use.
  • When used as gum base or glazing agent, it can be written by the group names “ガムベース” (gum base) and “光沢剤” (glazing agent), respectively. The simplified name when written by substance name is “植物ワックス” (plant wax), and other names are “カンデリラワックス” (candelilla wax), “キャンデリラロウ” (candelilla wax, alternative spelling), and “キャンデリラワックス” (candelilla wax, alternative spelling).
