Source and production
Obtained from the exudate of Manila elemi (Canarium luzonicum). The main component is β-amyrin.

In Japan

  • A resin whose main component is β-amyrin, obtained from the exudate of a tree called Manila elemi. Its purposes on the list are thickening stabilizer and gum base (definition in the List of Existing Food Additives and in Japan's Specifications and Standards for Food Additives).
  • When used as the base of chewing gum, it can be labeled simply with the group name “ガムベース” (gum base). When used as a thickener or stabilizer, it is written together with the purpose name, as in “増粘剤(エレミ樹脂)” (thickener (elemi resin)).
