  • Its short name is “加工デンプン” (modified starch). When it is used as a thickener, stabilizer, gelling agent, or “糊料” (thickening agent), it falls under the 8 purposes for which the purpose name must be written alongside.

In the EU

  • It is on the EU list of food additives (Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008, Annex II) as E1422.
  • In the EU as well, chemically modified starches can be grouped and labeled as “modified starch,” and the substance name and E number need not be given (Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011, Annex VII).

When it is labeled under a shared name

Acetylated Distarch Adipate may be declared on the label in the same way as “加工デンプン”. See Modified starch for details.
