The Food Labeling Standards (Appended Table 3) define “マヨネーズ” (mayonnaise) as a semi-solid dressing that uses egg yolk or whole egg, uses no ingredients or additives other than the required ingredients (edible vegetable fats and oils, and vinegar or citrus juice), egg yolk, egg white, protein hydrolysate, yeast extract, salt, sugars, honey, spices, seasoning (amino acids, etc.), acidulant and spice extract, and has 65% or more edible vegetable fats and oils. A food that does not fit this definition must not be labeled with the name “マヨネーズ” (Article 3, Appended Table 5). The name of this product is “マヨネーズ（プレーン）” (mayonnaise (plain)), and its ingredient list includes powdered dashi (starch breakdown product, sardine, bonito, kombu, shiitake, odorless garlic) and scallop extract, which are not listed in the definition. Yeast extract is listed in the definition. The label gives only the seller, and the factory could not be confirmed from the photo.
