In Japan

  • A flavoring class (a category entry) that designates the compounds belonging to this class as a group, excluding those generally recognized as highly toxic. The standards for use do not permit use for any purpose other than flavoring.
  • Under food labeling rules it can be written with the group name “香料” (flavoring), so the substance name rarely appears in the ingredient list.
