Source and production
Obtained by extracting sesame seeds, or the press cake left after oil extraction from the seeds, with ethanol. The main component is sesamolin.

In Japan

  • An antioxidant extracted with ethanol from sesame seeds or press cake, with sesamolin as the main component (List of Existing Food Additives). There are no standards for use.
  • Antioxidants are a purpose for which the purpose name must be written alongside, as in “酸化防止剤(ゴマ油抽出物)” (antioxidant (sesame oil extract)). The short name is “ゴマ油抽出物” (sesame oil extract).
  • In the List of Existing Food Additives, sesame oil unsaponifiable matter is excluded from the definition of spice extract and is treated as a separate item.
