d-δ-Tocopherol d-δ-トコフェロール

Existing food additivePermitted in the EU (E309)
Purpose
antioxidant, nutrient (fortification)
On the label
“酸化防止剤(ビタミンE)” (antioxidant (vitamin E)), “酸化防止剤(抽出V.E)” (antioxidant (extracted vitamin E)), “酸化防止剤(δ-トコフェロール)” (antioxidant (δ-tocopherol)), “酸化防止剤(抽出トコフェロール)” (antioxidant (extracted tocopherol))
Name in the List of Existing Food Additives
d-δ-トコフェロール (No. 199)
Source and production
A substance whose essence is d-δ-tocopherol (a form of vitamin E). Source, manufacturing method, and essence follow the specifications in the Japanese Standards for Food Additives.

In Japan

  • A form of vitamin E, used as an antioxidant to prevent oxidation and as a nutrient fortifier to supplement nutrition.
  • When used as an antioxidant, the purpose name must be written alongside, as in “酸化防止剤(ビタミンE)” (antioxidant (vitamin E)). The short names “ビタミンE” (vitamin E), “抽出V.E” (extracted vitamin E), and “抽出トコフェロール” (extracted tocopherol) are shared with d-α-tocopherol, d-γ-tocopherol, and mixed tocopherols.
  • When used to fortify nutrition, labeling is exempt.

Japan's standards for use

There are no standards for use that limit which foods or how much (the general standards for all additives still apply).

This is a summary of the standards for use. See the source list for the exact conditions.

In the EU

  • It is on the EU list of food additives (Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008, Annex II) as E309.
  • E309 in the EU is a specification for synthetic δ-tocopherol; extracts rich in naturally derived tocopherols are covered separately as E306.

When it is labeled under a shared name

d-δ-Tocopherol may be declared on the label in the same way as “酸化防止剤(ビタミンC・ビタミンE)”. See Antioxidant (vitamin C / vitamin E) for details.

This page lists facts stated in laws and in evaluations by public bodies; it is not a safety verdict. Additives used in Japan are approved by the government, which sets the foods and amounts they can be used in. The ADI is a guide to the amount that is considered safe to take every day over a lifetime.
