In Japan
- One of the calcium salts. Under the standards for use, it may be used only for nutritional purposes, up to 1.0% of the food as calcium.
- When used for nutritional fortification, it falls within the range for which additive labeling may be omitted under the Food Labeling Standards (Annex, Additives 1-5).

In the EU
- It is not on the EU list of food additives (Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008, Annex II), so it cannot be used as a food additive in the EU.
- It is listed in Annex II of the regulation on adding vitamins and minerals to foods (Regulation (EC) No 1925/2006) as one of the forms of calcium that may be added to foods.
