Tricalcium Phosphate (Calcium Phosphate, Tribasic) リン酸三カルシウム(別名第三リン酸カルシウム)
Designated additivePermitted in the EU (E341)EFSA ADI 40mg(リンとして) per kg body weight per day
- Purpose
- processing agent, nutrient (fortification)
- On the label
- Name in the List of Designated Additives
- リン酸三カルシウム(別名第三リン酸カルシウム) (No. 464)
In Japan
- When used as yeast food, a leavening agent, or gum base, it can be labeled with the respective group name. In processed cheese and similar foods, it also falls within the group name “乳化剤” (emulsifier).
- The simplified names are “リン酸カルシウム” and “リン酸Ca”, the same as for calcium monohydrogen phosphate and calcium dihydrogen phosphate.
- It is on the list of “additives considered to be used for nutrient fortification” (minerals). When it is used for nutrient fortification, labeling can be omitted (excluding foods for special dietary uses and foods with function claims).
Japan's standards for use
- Up to 1.0% of the food as calcium (excluding foods with special dietary use labeling)
- Only when essential for the manufacture or processing of food, and for nutritional purposes
This is a summary of the standards for use. See the source list for the exact conditions.
In the EU
- It is on the EU list of food additives (Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008, Annex II) as E341.
- In its 2019 evaluation, EFSA (the European Food Safety Authority) set an ADI (acceptable daily intake) of 40mg(リンとして) per kg of body weight per day (a group ADI, for the total of related substances) (EFSA FAF).
When it is labeled under a shared name
Tricalcium Phosphate (Calcium Phosphate, Tribasic) may be declared on the label in the same way as “リン酸塩”. See Phosphates for details.

This page lists facts stated in laws and in evaluations by public bodies; it is not a safety verdict. Additives used in Japan are approved by the government, which sets the foods and amounts they can be used in. The ADI is a guide to the amount that is considered safe to take every day over a lifetime.
