In Japan

  • A petroleum fraction near the boiling point of n-heptane; a colorless, clear, volatile liquid (Japanese Standards of Food Additives, 10th edition). Its purpose in the list of items in the List of Existing Food Additives is processing agent. There are no standards for use.
  • When it counts as a processing aid, for example because it is removed before the food is completed, it is exempt from labeling (Food Labeling Standards).
