Calcium Monohydrogen Phosphate (Calcium Phosphate, Dibasic) リン酸一水素カルシウム(別名第二リン酸カルシウム)
Designated additivePermitted in the EU (E341)EFSA ADI 40mg per kg body weight per day
- Purpose
- processing agent, nutrient (fortification)
- On the label
- “リン酸Ca” (calcium phosphate), “リン酸カルシウム” (calcium phosphate), “イーストフード・膨脹剤・ガムベース(一括名)” (yeast food / leavening agent / gum base (group names))
- Name in the List of Designated Additives
- リン酸一水素カルシウム(別名第二リン酸カルシウム) (No. 470)
In Japan
- A calcium salt of phosphoric acid, used as a fortifier to add calcium and as a processing agent in bread and confectionery.
- It falls within the range of the group names “イーストフード” (yeast food), “膨脹剤” (leavening agent), and “ガムベース” (gum base), and when used for those purposes it can be labeled with the group name. In processed cheese products it is also treated as an emulsifier.
- It also falls within the range of additives considered to be used for nutrient fortification, and labeling is exempt when it is used for that purpose.
Japan's standards for use
- Up to 1.0% of the food as calcium (excluding foods with special dietary use labeling)
- Only when essential for the manufacture or processing of food, and for nutritional purposes
This is a summary of the standards for use. See the source list for the exact conditions.
In the EU
- It is on the EU list of food additives (Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008, Annex II) as E341.
- In its 2019 evaluation, EFSA (the European Food Safety Authority) set an ADI (acceptable daily intake) of 40mg per kg of body weight per day (a group ADI, for the total of related substances) (EFSA FAF).
When it is labeled under a shared name
Calcium Monohydrogen Phosphate (Calcium Phosphate, Dibasic) may be declared on the label in the same way as “リン酸塩”. See Phosphates for details.

This page lists facts stated in laws and in evaluations by public bodies; it is not a safety verdict. Additives used in Japan are approved by the government, which sets the foods and amounts they can be used in. The ADI is a guide to the amount that is considered safe to take every day over a lifetime.
