  • A nutrient fortifier that supplies vitamin D. The list of standards for use has no rules on the foods it can be used in or the amounts, but it has a storage standard.
  • It is among the “additives thought to be used for nutrient fortification” (vitamins), and labeling is exempt when it is used for that purpose. When written by substance name, the short names are “ビタミンD” (vitamin D) and “V.D” (vitamin D) (the same as for ergocalciferol).

Japan's standards for use

  • Storage standard: store in a light-shielded, sealed container, with the air replaced by an inert gas, in a cool place

This is a summary of the standards for use. See the source list for the exact conditions.

In the EU

  • It is not on the EU list of food additives (Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008, Annex II), so it cannot be used as a food additive in the EU.

This page lists facts stated in laws and in evaluations by public bodies; it is not a safety verdict. The ADI is a guide to the amount that is considered safe to take every day over a lifetime.
