In Japan

  • The calcium salt of vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid), used as an antioxidant and as a nutrient fortifier. There are no standards for use.
  • When used as an antioxidant, it is written together with its purpose name, as in “酸化防止剤(ビタミンC)” (antioxidant (vitamin C)). Simplified names are “アスコルビン酸Ca” (Ca ascorbate), “ビタミンC” (vitamin C), and “V.C” (vitamin C, abbreviation). When used for nutrient fortification, labeling can generally be omitted.
