Calcium Lactate 乳酸カルシウム
Designated additivePermitted in the EU (E327)
- Purpose
- nutrient (fortification)
- On the label
- “乳酸Ca” (calcium lactate), “乳酸カルシウム” (calcium lactate), “乳酸(Na,Ca)” (lactic acid (Na, Ca)), “調味料(有機酸)” (seasoning (organic acid)), “膨張剤” (leavening agent)
- Name in the List of Designated Additives
- 乳酸カルシウム (No. 299)
In Japan
- One of the calcium salts. It is classified as a fortifier in the standards for use, with a limit of 1.0% of the food as calcium.
- Under the Food Labeling Standards, when used as a seasoning (organic acid) or a leavening agent, it can be labeled under that group name. When used for nutritional fortification, it falls within the range where additive labeling can be omitted (Attachment, Additive 1-5).
- When written by substance name, the short name “乳酸Ca” (calcium lactate) can be used. When used together with lactic acid and sodium lactate, they can be written together, as in “乳酸(Na,Ca)” (lactic acid (Na, Ca)).
Japan's standards for use
- Up to 1.0% of the food as calcium (excluding foods with special use labeling)
This is a summary of the standards for use. See the source list for the exact conditions.
In the EU
- It is on the EU list of food additives (Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008, Annex II) as E327.

This page lists facts stated in laws and in evaluations by public bodies; it is not a safety verdict. Additives used in Japan are approved by the government, which sets the foods and amounts they can be used in. The ADI is a guide to the amount that is considered safe to take every day over a lifetime.
