In Japan

  • The acetate ester of d-α-tocopherol, a form of vitamin E, used as a nutrient fortifier. Under the standards for use, the foods it can be used in are limited to foods for specified health uses and foods with nutrient function claims.
  • The short names are “酢酸トコフェロール” (tocopherol acetate), “酢酸ビタミンE” (vitamin E acetate), and “酢酸V.E” (vitamin E acetate), written the same way as tocopherol acetate.
  • It is among the additives thought to be used for nutrient fortification (vitamins), and labeling can be omitted when it is used for that purpose (except for foods for special dietary uses and foods with functional claims).

Japan's standards for use

  • Only for foods for specified health uses (FOSHU) and foods with nutrient function claims
  • Up to 150 mg as α-tocopherol per daily intake guideline amount of the food

This is a summary of the standards for use. See the source list for the exact conditions.

In the EU

  • It is not on the EU list of food additives (Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008, Annex II), so it cannot be used as a food additive in the EU.
  • E307 on the EU additive list is α-tocopherol and does not include the acetate ester. D-α-tocopheryl acetate is listed in Regulation (EC) No 1925/2006, Annex II (amended by Regulation 1170/2009), as a form of vitamin E that may be added to food.

The ADI is a guide to the amount that is considered safe to take every day over a lifetime.
