In Japan

  • A processing agent used in making wine. Under the standards for use, it is limited to wine and the grape juice used to make it, at up to 0.50 g per liter of wine, and it must be removed before the final food is completed.
  • When it counts as a processing aid, for example because it is removed before the food is completed, it is exempt from labeling in the ingredient list (the Food Labeling Standards).

In the EU

  • It is not on the EU list of food additives (Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008, Annex II), so it cannot be used as a food additive in the EU.
  • In the EU, Annex I of Delegated Regulation (EU) 2019/934 lists the use of PVI/PVP copolymer as a winemaking practice.
