In Japan

  • A manufacturing agent used as an aid when filtering liquids (a filtration aid). The standards for use say it cannot be used for anything other than as a filtration aid, and must be removed before the final food is completed.
  • When it counts as a processing aid, such as being removed before the food is completed, it is exempt from labeling in the ingredient list (Food Labeling Standards).
