- A processing agent (“製造用剤”) used in the manufacturing and processing of food. Under the standards for use, it must be neutralized or removed before the final food is completed.
- Additives that are removed or neutralized before the food is completed and do not remain in it are exempt from additive labeling as processing aids (Food Labeling Standards).
